Area Residents Can Build Career Skills Online and in the Classroom

Sidney, NY - CDO Workforce, serving businesses and employees in Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego County, today announced free training opportunities for local job seekers as well as employed workers.

“We provide a wide range of resources and services to our community,” says Maggie Gilbert, manager of the Sidney CDO Workforce One Stop Center. “This ranges from reviewing and drafting professional resumes, to high school equivalency classes, to training for specific careers, to linking job seekers to local job opportunities.”

“Much of our training and support services are available online,” adds Tylena Daniels, manager of the Norwich CDO Workforce One Stop Center. “Our customers are able to gain valuable career skills from their own home or workplace.”

“We also offer socially-distanced classroom training where customers are able to learn and prepare for careers that are in-demand in our area – such as CDL B driver’s license, certified nurse’s aide, carpentry, and more,” says Penny Seeger, supervisor of the Oneonta CDO Workforce One Stop Center.

CDO Workforce's Disability Employment Initiative team, together with youth from our Work Experience Program, have created a collection of community resources for Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego Counties. 

The Community Resource Tool is available for free on the CDO Workforce website and is appropriate for use by youth and adult job seekers, human service agencies, community organizations, and government entities.

There are specific categories of resources and services for individuals with disabilities, including people with substance abuse disorders.

Workforce Development Board Project Director

The Workforce Development Board (WDB) is seeking a full-time Project Director for a grant-funded 4 year Rural Healthcare Project based in Utica serving 12 surrounding counties in NYS.

Responsibilities:
Fiscal and programmatic management; documentation of services, project compliance and performance, staff accountability; ability to direct and provide advising to participants; skill with interviewing, hiring, training, supervising and evaluating staff; ability to coordinate and promote project activities and services with other community agencies; skills in oversight of data management and reporting for project evaluation; commitment to represent the project and advocate for the needs of disadvantaged students within the community; demonstrated service on community activities; and demonstrated commitment to foster a supportive, collaborative climate.


Qualifications:
Master's degree preferred in education, counseling or related field; four years paid work experience in program, personnel and budget management, preferably in not for profit programs, with preference for candidates who have experience working with ESL populations and individuals from diverse backgrounds. Required knowledge and experience: fiscal and programmatic compliance with federal regulations, federal program planning and evaluation; budget management; ability to engender strong interagency support; working knowledge of databases and data collection, analysis and evaluation, and other technologies; familiarity with student development and learning theory, academic advisement and college survival, learning styles and strategies; ability to communicate across cultural differences; impact of culture on learning; tutor training and supervision; knowledge of two- and four-year articulation issues; demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, and demonstrated ability to implement a service-oriented program in an efficient and timely manner.

Several actual company examples will be used to help in the attendees better understand the approach and attention required for good supervisory skills. Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act One Stop Operator WDB HMO

The Workforce Development Board Herkimer, Madison & Oneida Counties, Inc. (WDB) has issued a Request for Proposals for: Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act One Stop Operator. 

The WDB Herkimer, Madison & Oneida Counties, Inc. is a not-for-profit agency with a long history of providing employment and training programs in the three county region. The system is funded under the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) and connects multiple federally funded employment and training programs in the local workforce area. 

The One Stop Operator (“Operator”), in a consultant role, will play a critical role in supporting the local workforce system to coordinate its diverse partners to achieve its service delivery vision and reach its ‘to be defined’ performance goals. The Contract Period is: April 1, 2021 to June 30, 2023.

The deadline for submission is March 1, 2021.
