DCMO BOCES offers Pre-Employment Security Guard Training. 

This is a great training for a person seeking entry level employment as a Security Guard. 

This course provides an introduction to the Security Guard Act of 1992, the role of a Security Guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, ethics and conduct, and course review. An examination will be given. When you successfully complete this 8-hour course and pass the exam you will receive an official course completion certificate. 

CLASS COST - $60.00 

Materials / Supplies 
All supplied. Please bring snack/meal and beverage to class.

Opportunities for Otsego Seeks Volunteers to serve as Navigators

Volunteer Navigator Training is April 10th!  

In its effort to fight poverty, Opportunities for Otsego is seeking community volunteers to serve as Navigators. Navigators agree to be trained in the Opportunity Community model and commit to using their networks to assist Neighbors living in poverty to access resources and supports for moving and staying out of poverty. 

April Training: April 10, 2018 from 8:00 AM to Noon OR 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Once trained, Navigators will be paired with Neighbors that are struggling with poverty. Pairing will occur at the Opportunity Conference, scheduled for Saturday, May 12th in Oneonta.

The conference will be led by Dr. Donna Beegle, a nationally renowned speaker who broke free from a life of generational migrant-labor poverty.

Job description:
Handpick items from pallets on shelves using order sheets, boxing items and preparing cartons for shipping, placing items on conveyor and routing to proper area, palletizing packed cartons for shipping, weighing packages, entering data and labeling items appropriately, operating mechanical jacks, possibly operating fork trucks and lifts to transport product, performing necessary paperwork for filing as well as data entry.
Must be able to stand and walk for up to 8 hours. Occasional climbing, balancing, squatting and bending. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs., have basic reading, writing and math skills. Utilize visual and auditory skills constantly. Willing to accept a trainee. Will accept related experience in Assembly, Production, Manufacturing, Machine Operator, Forklift driver. Work days are Monday through Friday, work hours to be determined.
Hiring requirements: Employment Test, reference/security test. Benefits: Medical and Dental insurance.

Manufacturing Basics Training & Job Fair is a Success!

Congratulations, Graduates! 

Congratulations to the successful completers of the Manufacturing Basics Certification Training held last month in conjunction between CDO Workforce, SUNY Broome and the Otsego Chamber of Commerce.

There were 16 participants in the training, all local dislocated workers, which despite challenging weather and road conditions completed and graduated the two-week intensive training.

Topics covered in the training included Hand Tool Usage, Blueprint Interpretation, Reading Measuring Devices, Shop Math, Quality Control, Basic Computer, MS Excel, Interpersonal Communication, and Technical Writing, all areas of need reported by local employers.

Upon completion of the training a Job Fair was held on March 16th, in which students were given the opportunity to meet directly with employers from the Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego County areas.

The Job Fair was well-received and attended by both students and the public.

Free Manufacturing Basics Training & Job Fair

Job Fair Open to All!  

SUNY Broome Community College is offering a free Manufacturing Basics Training program, funded by a NYS Department of Labor grant, to be held at the Otsego Chamber of Commerce, Oneonta, NY.

This training program is two weeks long and begins March 5th - 16th.

The training components cover a number of areas identified by local companies as a "plus" to being hired by their companies.

Successful completion of this two week program guarantees set-aside interview time with manufacturing companies at a job fair following the training. The job fair will be held on March 16, from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the Otsego Chamber of Commerce. The job fair is open to all. To view/download details about the job fair, click here
